Candidiasis
Even when you are healthy, bacteria and yeast, including Candida albicans , are present on your skin and in your mouth, nose and digestive tract. Normally, these micro-organisms exist on and in you without causing any harm. In fact, the micro-organisms present in the lower digestive tract are highly beneficial in assisting in the digestion of food and in synthesizing vitamins that are essential to your good health.
Under certain conditions, Candida albicans populations can increase thereby upsetting the balance of your beneficial bacteria. This can result in an infection known as CANDIDIASIS and can occur in men, women and children.
Candidiasis is one of the new medical concerns of the 21 st century. It has been described by many prominent physicians including C. Orian Truss in The Missing Diagnosis , William Crook in The Yeast Connection , and Keith Sehnert in The Candidiasis Syndrome . Please read ahead to educate yourself about this complex condition.
Risk Factors
There are several factors that can allow Candida albicans to overgrow in the lower intestinal tract. Frequent courses of steroidal drugs and antibiotics can depress the intestinal bacterial population that permits the overgrowth of yeast. The hormonal changes that occur when oral contraceptives are used or which can accompany pregnancies have been implicated in increasing susceptibility to Candidiasis in women.
Diets high in sugar and other refined simple carbohydrates can encourage yeast overgrowth. Additionally factors which depress immune system function allow Candida albicans the opportunity to grow and multiply, causing Candidiasis. These factors include, but are not limited to: food allergies, Mercury and heavy metal toxicity, and hormone imbalances.
Candidiasis can manifest as multiple symptoms affecting different parts of the body. Physical symptoms can include:
- Sensitivity to perfumes, tobacco, chemicals
